Nitrous Oxide

Most people know nitrous oxide as laughing gas. Mixed with oxygen, the gas is inhaled through a mask during your procedure. It won’t put you to sleep, but it does leave you feeling completely relaxed and at ease. It takes effect soon after you begin breathing it in, and wears off quickly once you’ve stopped. 

Oral Conscious Sedation

The next step up in sedation options is oral conscious sedation. No gas or needles are involved here. Instead, you take a pill thirty minutes before the procedure begins. As with nitrous oxide, you’ll be awake during the procedure, but you’ll be even more relaxed. You may not even remember the procedure once it’s done. Because it doesn’t wear off instantly like the laughing gas, you will need a friend or family member to give you a lift home after the visit.
