Some parents are surprised to learn that a child's first dental visit should ideally take place around the time they turn one or when their first tooth grows in. If your child ever needs to see a dentist for a dental emergency, like a severe toothache or a tooth or gum-related injury, please give our office a call, and we will get them in for a same-day emergency appointment.

What dental services do kids need?

In addition to routine dental exams and teeth cleanings, we recommend that kids receive occasional fluoride treatments to strengthen their tooth enamel and prevent tooth decay. Dental sealants are another excellent preventive service that kids can benefit from, as they help prevent harmful bacteria from collecting in hard-to-brush areas on the molars and protect the teeth from cavities. Any other services your child may need will depend on their unique oral health needs.

How can I help my child have positive experiences at the dentist?

Attending regular dental visits, preferably at the same dental practice, helps kids become familiar with visiting the dentist and reduces anxiety. We always recommend that parents talk about dentistry in a positive way around their children. Our team can also speak with your child and explain our procedures in a kid-friendly way so that dental care becomes less scary and foreign and more familiar to them.
