Oral Conscious Sedation

Oral conscious sedation is a common form of sedation dentistry, and one that requires no needles. You will be prescribed a specific sedative pill to take about 30 minutes prior to your appointment. During the procedure, you can expect to be fully relaxed but awake and aware of your surroundings. Most patients are completely undisturbed by the dental work being performed and may not even remember the procedure after it is done. Rest assured that we will closely monitor your pulse, oxygen saturation rate and blood pressure during the entire procedure. Due to the effects of the medication, it is necessary that you bring someone with you to drive you home after your appointment. Sedation Dentistry FAQs

Which sedation method is right for me?

The best dental sedation method is determined on a case-by-case basis and varies for each patient. During your first visit, we’ll discuss your medical history, any dental anxiety you may have, and create a treatment plan to fit your needs.

How long does it take for oral conscious sedation to wear off after my appointment?

Oral conscious sedation typically wears off about an hour after your treatment. You may still feel some effects for the remainder of the day, including drowsiness or decreased responsiveness. Due to this, we strongly encourage you to be accompanied by someone who can drive you home after your visit.

Can I eat before a sedation appointment?

Typically, you should avoid eating for up to 6 hours before treatment. Once your sedation dentistry method has been determined, our team will provide you with detailed instructions for before and after your appointment.
